Black Swan Takes a Dive

IF YOU LIKE ARTSY, SYMBOLIC FLICKS, CHECK IT OUT AT REGULAR PRICE – OTHERWISE WAIT FOR CABLE.

The Black Swan is like a friends with benefits relationship – it left me with mixed emotions. While I can’t say that I enjoyed the film, I cannot say unequivocally that I disliked it. If you like interpreting the hidden meanings and symbolism in films; this is the movie for you. If you like the chase and want to cut to it without having to use a decoder ring, you may want to skip it.

As usual, director Darren Aronofsky(Requiem of a Dream, The Wrestler) put his dark imprint on the ballet world. He examines the life of Nina (Natalie Portman), a young ballerina, who is trying to prepare for the role of her life. Portman does a great job in the role and is pretty believable. If you’re into films rich with symbolism – you’ll love it. The problem is that there are a ton of unanswered questions in the end. Great for debates but horrible if you like a happy ending.
