DRIVE

DRIVE – SLOW MOTION

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY! WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT ON VIDEO

When we say we were excited to see this movie, we couldn’t wait for the premiere. Commercials and advanced material all pointed to what we thought would be a bigger and better film similar to the Transporter starring Jason Statham. We expected lots of driving, plenty of cars, maybe a few sex scenes and possibly some stellar acting.

Drive directed by Nicolas Winding Refn is a story about a Hollywood stunt driver (Ryan Gosling) who moonlights as a getaway driver. All is well until he establishes a relationship with his neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan) who has a son that he becomes attached to. Unfortunately for him that shortly after they meet, her husband gets out of prison and brings trouble home with him. To prevent Irene and her son from being harmed, he decides to help her husband settle a debt, which goes horribly wrong.

We are disappointed to say that our excitement quickly dissipated. Not only was the movie slow, but portions of the film were even shot in slow motion making things that much worse. The first real resemblance of action didn’t occur until 45 minutes into the movie. This is far from the hype that the advertisements depicted and what we expected. In addition to that, the stars didn’t have any major lines or dialog throughout the movie. Basically one liners and awkward moments throughout.

We are happy to say that the kills in the film were outstanding; leaving some to cringe from the gore. All we have to say is who knew a heel of a boot could do all that damage.

Many may like Drive, but unfortunately we are not among them. Call it “High Expectations”! Call it “Us making the mistake of expecting another Transporter”! Whatever it is, its not worth an admission ticket to the movies. Save your money and watch it on DVD.

Movie Synopsis: Promising a week of fun and relaxation, a group of six friends’ head out on a road trip to New Orleans.  Deciding to stop at a roadside tourist trap along the Louisiana back-roads, they are introduced to the legend of Lockjaw, the local version of Bigfoot. A creature part man, part alligator… the legend tells of an inbred local man by the name of Grimley who lost his family to a monstrous white alligator and driven to madness when he was too late to save his pregnant bride (also his sister!) from the beast. In a fit of rage, he ate the ancient alligator and was cursed and transformed into the monster that became known as Lockjaw.

Their curiosity peaked, the group decides to head deeper into the swamps to check out the birthplace of the Creature legend. As they journey further into the backwoods the group arrives at an old dilapidated cabin and decide to camp there for the night. Setting up camp and unwinding by the campfire, they are blissfully unaware that they are being watched…

Soon, an innocent road trip to New Orleans becomes a nightmarish and brutal fight for survival deep in the swamplands of the Louisiana Bayou…
