TOWER HEIST – STOLEN BY EDDIE

POTENTIAL FULL PRICER, BUT ONLY WORTH A MATINEE

When we saw the early press releases for this Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy film, we were ready to laugh for a full 104 minutes. It had the makings to be great.

Josh Kovacs (Ben Stiller) is the manager of a prestigious apartment building called the Tower. He befriends a tenant named Mr. Shaw who he believes is a successful financial investor. It’s not until Mr. Shaw is arrested by the FBI that Josh and other members of the staff realize that he is not as successful as he portrayed. The story takes a turn for the worse when Josh tells the staff that he invested their pension with Mr. Shaw which is now gone. Once Josh learns of the negative effects his decision made on the staff, he decides to make it his mission to get their money back by stealing Mr. Shaw’s secret stash.

Thank goodness Eddie Murphy was in this film, because it didn’t really get funny until he appeared on the screen. Yes Ben and the other cast of comedians had some funny lines, but Eddie clearly stole the show with his unique comedic style. It got to the point where we looked forward to him coming back on the screen so that we could laugh again.

This movie was funny, but with a cast like this we definitely expected more. You won’t be upset spending your money on a matinee, but you’re going to feel like someone stole your stash if you pay full price for this one.
