The Pirates! Band of Misfits

The Pirates! Band of Misfits-Aye Aye Matey!

Packed with Adventure-Well Worth A Full Price Ticket

Hugh Grant stars in this 3-D animated film as Pirate Captain – a spirited second rate pirate of the High Seas. Based on a novel by Gideon Defoe, and directed by Peter Lord and Jeff Newitt, Pirate Captain and his motley crew: Pirate with a Scarf (Martin Freeman), Pirate with Gout (Brendan Gleeson), Albino Pirate (Russell Tovey), and Curvaceous Pirate (Ashley Jensen), set out to outmaneuver his rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to win the coveted Pirate of the Year Award.

The Captain embarks upon several failed missions to raid ships in hopes of gaining the award. During one of the missions, the Captain and crew capture a young scientist, Charles Darwin (David Tennant). To thwart walking the plank, Darwin convinces Pirate Captain that the crew’s parrot is an exotic bird and entices the Captain to travel to London and pose as scientists to parade the parrot to the Royals. The pirates ‘charade is discovered by Queen Victoria (Imelda Staunton) who despises pirates. In an effort to kill two birds with one stone (no pun intended) the Captain comes up with a plan he thinks will make him a shoe-in for the Pirate of the Year Award. His plan of course comes with some unintended consequences.

We really enjoyed this movie. The animation is the real star. Young and not so young alike will be fascinated by the computer graphics.

This is a movie the entire family can enjoy!

THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT-WE’RE NOT IN LOVE WITH THIS MOVIE

No Need to Rush Down the Aisle for This One-It’s Not Worth A Full Price Ticket

We all know a couple that has been engaged forever—time passes by and we wonder when or if they will ever get married. “Five Year Engagement” written by Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller, who also directed the movie; is a romantic comedy that follows a couple’s relationship journey and possible trip down the road of matrimony.

The movie begins with Tom (Jason Segel) proposing to his girlfriend Violet’s (Emily Blunt). The San Francisco couple’s engagement is postponed after Violet is offered a fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Along with their co-stars Alison Brie who plays Violet’s sister Suzie and Chris Pratt as Tom’s best friend Alex, the chemistry of the cast make this movie tolerable.

The movie explores several relationship issues with the most prominent one being the impact of compromises made by a mate in a relationship to please the other person. The writers do a fairly decent job of capturing the anxiety faced by many engaged couples without slamming overused cliches’ down your throat.

Just like some weddings, this movie is long and drags on forever. Towards the middle we were wondering when it would end. There are quite a few funny moments in the movie, but the movie is just ok.

This is the type of movie you see when the movie you really want to see is sold out. Catch this at a matinee or wait for it on DVD.

THINK LIKE A MAN

THINK LIKE A MAN – DEFINITELY NOT A GAME!

WORTH EVERY PENNY OF A FULL PRICED TICKET!

When was the last time you saw a predominately all African American casted film this heavily advertised…………. Still thinking? Yea we are too!

Think Like A Man directed by Tim Story is a storyline written from a mans point of view on relationships. The relationship lifestyles of six male friends are exposed when women learn about a new book written by Steve Harvey which teaches women how to beat men at their own game.

We aren’t sure if Steve Harvey thought to have a movie created from his book when he wrote it, but this was pure genius. A movie on relationships to our knowledge has never been written from a males point of view. Thus the pure concept is intriguing.

The chemistry between the cast was exceptional, but considering the all star list of actors including Meagan Good, Taraji P Henson, Gabrielle Union, Michael Ealy, Kevin Hart and many others,  its no wonder the acting was spot on.

The story line was great, the manner in which it was presented was entertaining and the comedic banter by Kevin Hart stole the movie. Matter of fact, if we were Kevin Hart, we would go immediately on tour, because people will beg for more after this performance.

As we stated above, we can’t remember the last time a predominately all black casted movie was this heavily advertised, but the advertising is warranted, because everyone should see this film.
