THE DEVIL INSIDE

THE DEVIL INSIDE – SO BAD THAT THE VATICAN SHOULD AUTHORIZE AN EXORCISM FOR IT…PURE EVIL TO CHARGE MONEY FOR THIS MESS

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

We were actually pretty excited to see this film since we are HUGE fans of the horror genre. The commercials looked great and seemed to want to immerse moviegoers into the hidden world of exorcisms. Instead, the disaster of a film actually seems more like a thinly veiled Blair Witch Project knockoff.

The story follows Isabella Rossi (Fernanda Andrade) as the subject of a documentary aimed at finding out the reason why her mother (Suzan Crowley) snapped and killed three people. Isabella learned from her father that her mother killed three church members during an exorcism and travels to Italy to see her mother in a mental institution.

The first annoying thing about this movie is that it is shot as if it is a documentary. A lot of moving camera rubbish and motion. We almost felt sea-sick watching the camera constantly move. We all know that this is not a true story so why even go through the motions of making this look like an “authentic” documentary.

The second problem is that this movie is way too short. Viewers feel shafted shelling out cash for tickets when they don’t get a nice bang for their buck. It’s barely an hour and a half long.

Again, it seems like the intent here was to follow a typical documentary style format but there are so many things wrong with where they left off. The audience actually booed. We hate when random dialogue is given in the movie and nothing comes to fruition to explain it. Don’t set-up the sequel until you can get the first film right.

Finally, there were small things that bothered us. For instance, shouldn’t the steering wheel be on the right side of the car if they were really in Italy??? Especially if the intent is to pass this off as a “real” event. There were camera angles that would not have been possible as well. We don’t want to spoil the ending for those of you that make the decision to see this debacle despite the warning, but it is completely unbelievable.

One of the few bright spots in the movie comes from Crowley’s performance which is just downright disturbing at times. She does crazy a little too well.

Do yourself a favor and wait for this one to make its way to cable. While the couple next to us in the theater enjoyed The Devil Inside, they were the only two in the theater who felt that way. The reason we can say that with confidence is the number of boos and hisses that we heard along with several expletives. Save your soul and your money.

FINAL DESTINATION 5

FINAL DESTINATION 5 – GET YOUR BOARDING PASS

WORTH FULL PRICE ADMISSION

We are on the fifth installment of the Final Destination franchise, so it’s pretty clear how the storyline goes; this version is no different.  A group of coworkers are headed on a work retreat and Sam (Nicholas D’Agosto) has a premonition that the suspension bridge that they are travelling across is about to collapse. Like the main characters in the first four Final Destination films, Sam decides to warn his friends and some of them narrowly escape death.

Because they cheated death, now the universe must be re-aligned and they all must die in the same order as the original plan on the bridge. The coworkers spend the rest of the movie trying to avoid dangerous situations and for some – it just doesn’t work.

If you are into blood, gore and decapitation, this is definitely the film for you. Director Steven Quale ensured that this one lived up to the hype of all the prior versions, but he trumped the others with advanced 3D film tricks. 3D simply took the film to another level. The blood, flying objects and gory deaths are brought to life making this a must see movie. There’s even a few moments in the film that will make you cringe and maybe even close your eyes because you know what’s coming.

You need to run out to the movies and immediately see this 5th generation classic, but don’t even spend your money unless you see it in 3D. It’s worth the extra few bucks.

Roommate

The Roommate – She’s Single, White…& Familiar

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THE THEATER -WAIT TO SEE THIS ON CABLE

I had high hopes for this movie.  I love Leighton Meester especially as Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl.  The problem with this movie is that it is a watered down version of Single White Female Goes to College.  The Roommate lacks some of the psychological thrills that you want to see coming.  Like most movies, the movie trailers show the most exciting scenes in the commercial.

Audiences will spend more time being freaked out about how much Minka Kelly & Leighton Meester look alike.  It seems like Rebecca (Meester) should have just gotten a makeover and some new clothes to be more like Sara (Kelly).
