ACT OF VALOR

ACT OF VALOR – GETS THE AWARD

Spend Your Cash Proudly On A Full Price Ticket!

Have you ever sat back and counted how many navy seal, marine and army movies there have been over the years. They all have the same basic concept and no matter how you change the story or the actors, the result is still the same. Lots of action, strong manly looking guys and usually so so acting. If your into those type of movies, then your happy. If not, then you always pass or wish you had. Directors Mike McCoy, Scott Waugh were dedicated towards making their film unique by adding one critical piece: REAL ACTIVE DUTY NAVY SEALS AS THE LEADING CHARACTERS.

Like we mentioned above, the story line doesn’t differ much from all the others. A group of Navy Seals are sent on a mission to rescue a kidnapped CIA agent who stumbled upon the wrong men looking to do harm against the US. Its not until they make the rescue that they determine that there is much more to the story than they originally thought.

From the news, trailers and the commercials, we were excited to see the results of this unique approach. We weren’t expecting much from an acting standpoint, but we anticipated plenty of action and a real view into what its like to be a Navy Seal.

We are comfortable stating that this is the closest you will ever get to experiencing what its like to be Navy Seal unless you are or were one. Many of the scenes were shot from a point of view perspective and according to the directors, real live ammo was used to bring a realistic feel to the movie.

It’s almost as if the directors were playing the video game “Call of Duty Modern War fare” and decided to shoot a movie the same way. To add some acting ability to the movie, they did incorporate actors Alex Veadov, Roselyn Sanchez and Nestor Serrano, but the stars of this film were clearly the Navy Seals.

Although the movie had a sour ending, if you don’t leave this film feeling inspired, its definitely something wrong with you.

Spend your cash proudly on a full price ticket if your into movies like this. Otherwise conserve your dough and see the matinee.

SAFE HOUSE

SAFE HOUSE – IN DENZEL WE TRUST

DON’T ASK  HOW MUCH THE TICKET IS, JUST PULL OUT YOUR MONEY

Anytime you see Denzel in a film, you can almost guarantee that its going to be epic. So its no surprise Safe House is getting rave reviews from critics and fans alike.

Tobin Frost (Denzel) once a respected CIA operative, is now on the run as a rogue agent attempting to protect the contents of a secret file. The US Government takes him to a Safe House operated by Matt Weston (‘Ryan Reynolds’ ), a rookie CIA agent and things get a little dicey when the safe house is breached. Matt trying to advance in his career, attempts to deliver Tobin to the next safe house, but is met with resistance while trying to determine who is truly his enemy.

We thought this movie was going to be good, but if exceeded our expectations. The action was plentiful, while the dialog was on point and intriguing. Best part of all, the clips from the commercials weren’t the best parts of the movie. We hate it when that happens. And yes, Denzel had a few classic one liners like he always does.

Don’t worry about the price of the ticket! It’s safe to assume you won’t be disappointed when the credits run.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – STILL POSSIBLE

FULL PRICE TICKET FOR THIS FILM

When you think of Tom Cruise and the abundance of films he has been in, the Mission Impossible series is most likely one of the first to come to mind. Well, he is back at it again.

The IMF request the unique skills of  Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) to solve another mission until all goes wrong and they are implicated in a bombing of the Kremlin. Tom and his team are forced to go rogue and their mission if they chose to accept it was to clear their name and make things right.

Brad Bird (Ratatouille, The Incredibles) is the latest director to take a shot at directing version 4 of the series and he didn’t look to reinvent the wheel.  The film had all the usual action scenes and dare devil moves similar to the first three versions of the series, but he added more of a comedic spin to this one. The funny scenes threw us off for a moment, but the laughter became refreshing after we got over the initial shock.

This is a definite must see and worth every penny of a full price admission ticket. Although its difficult to find something bad to say about the film, we will mention that if your tight for money, save a few dollars by not seeing the IMAX version. It’s cool and all, but you will get the same effect seeing the regular version.

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO – WATCH OUT! SHE’S SPITTING FIRE!

Director David Fincher tries to put his spin on the Swedish film series authored by Stieg Larrson. Although we are getting a little restless about the number of “re-imaginings” that seem to go on in Hollywood while originality falls by the wayside, this is one series that does not disappoint. We found the original trilogy of films great despite watching sub-titles, so we anticipated this would at least be entertaining and easier on the ears.

Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara share the spotlight in this thriller that keeps you guessing (well, if you haven’t seen the foreign version). The result is a more polished product that doesn’t stray much from the original, but the story is compelling enough to be seen again. Mara is a perfect Lisbeth, complete with emotionless expressions and stealth moves. She has the right mix of quirky and mysterious for this role and it comes together well.

Sources at Sony have confirmed that the American production of the sequel was indeed given the green light. Expect Craig & Mara to reprise their roles for the second chapter as well as the finale (if the audiences warm up to the series). We think that this a sure way to heat up the winter months.
