LINCOLN – THE STORY TELLER

Definitely worthy of a FULL price ticket

OK everyone, get your pin and paper out because your getting ready to be told a historic story that changed the United States forever.

As President Lincoln struggles to deal with the reality of the Civil War, he pushes his political party and a few others to approve the 13th amendment so that slavery can be abolished.

Bravo! Bravo! Daniel Day-Lewis who played Abraham Lincoln, did an outstanding job portraying who some believe to be one of the greatest presidents the United States has ever had. We thought we knew a lot about this era from our studies throughout life, but either we weren’t paying attention or sometimes a visual picture is better than words.

Its a little long and there aren’t any sex scenes or car chases to keep your heart pumping, but the actors were outstanding and the storyline was intriguing and informative. You won’t be dissapointed and if you have some kids who need a study session in history this is the film to take them too.

Hugh Grant stars in this 3-D animated film as Pirate Captain – a spirited second rate pirate of the High Seas. Based on a novel by Gideon Defoe, and directed by Peter Lord and Jeff Newitt, Pirate Captain and his motley crew: Pirate with a Scarf (Martin Freeman), Pirate with Gout (Brendan Gleeson), Albino Pirate (Russell Tovey), and Curvaceous Pirate (Ashley Jensen), set out to outmaneuver his rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to win the coveted Pirate of the Year Award.

The Captain embarks upon several failed missions to raid ships in hopes of gaining the award. During one of the missions, the Captain and crew capture a young scientist, Charles Darwin (David Tennant). To thwart walking the plank, Darwin convinces Pirate Captain that the crew’s parrot is an exotic bird and entices the Captain to travel to London and pose as scientists to parade the parrot to the Royals. The pirates ‘charade is discovered by Queen Victoria (Imelda Staunton) who despises pirates. In an effort to kill two birds with one stone (no pun intended) the Captain comes up with a plan he thinks will make him a shoe-in for the Pirate of the Year Award. His plan of course comes with some unintended consequences.

We really enjoyed this movie. The animation is the real star. Young and not so young alike will be fascinated by the computer graphics.

This is a movie the entire family can enjoy!
